Henriques Law & Mediation Group > Gennivieve Henriques
Gennivieve Henriques is the founding partner of Henriques Law + Mediation Group. Originally from Jamaica, she immigrated to the United States in 1985. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University Of Miami School Of Law after obtaining a Bachelors of Arts in Accounting from the University of Miami with Honors (Cum Laude) and an Associate in Arts with Distinction from Miami-Dade Community College.
Graduating and passing the Bar in 1992, she quickly made use of her legal skills – negotiating large insurance settlements and overseeing the re-construction of properties damaged by Hurricane Andrew that same year. With that experience came a change of mind – she decided against returning to Jamaica in the hope of becoming its first female Prime Minister – choosing instead to remain in Miami and practice law her way. Impressed by her take charge attitude and indomitable spirit, she was encouraged to “hang her shingle” by those who saw this young lawyer in action.
Encouraged to provide quality legal services at reasonable rates, she opened her practice and set about doing just that. As a teenager she concluded that the best way to champion the rights of others and stamp out those who would belittle and bully those unable to stand up for themselves was to become an attorney. Armed with that determination, she combined the resources of a large firm with the personal touch of a boutique firm to ensure her clients benefited from the best of both circumstances.
Mrs. H., as she is affectionately called, continued to grow her practice to be responsive to the needs of her clients. As can be seen from the varied practice areas, she represents people in need of counselling, divorces, acquisition of properties, businesses matters, guardianship, preparation of wills and trust and probating estates. Also represented by her firm are churches, general contractors, homeowners, condominium associations, and quasi-governmental entities such as FannieMae.
A real estate broker /owner of Mahogany Real Estate Group, she and her sales associates assists clients in the purchase, sale and leasing of residential and, commercial properties. The firm also represents individual and corporate buyers and sellers as they acquire and sell properties, including preparing the various relevant documents needed to complete the transactions. Continuing her vertical integration, the firm is a title agent for Attorneys Title Insurance Fund/Old Republic, issuing owners’, mortgagee and leasehold title polices.
A certified mediator in the Civil Circuit and the Appellate Courts as well as a trained arbitrator, Mrs. H. nevertheless litigates for her clients when there seems no alternative. She litigates in county, state and federal courts and handles appeals to the District Courts of Appeal as well as the United States Supreme Court.
Licensed to practice law in the State of Florida since 1992, she is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Florida. She became a member of the State Bar of Georgia in 1994; the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.) in 1995 and became entitled to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2012.
Mrs. H. has served on numerous corporate boards and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Miami.
